1. On 22nd November 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald - two days later Oswald was shot dead by Jack Ruby.
2. Dr. Martin Luther King delivers his "I Have A Dream" civil rights speech in Washington in front of 200,000 supporters.
3. On August 5th 1963 the USA , Soviet Union and Britain sign the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty which banned such tests in the atmosphere , under water and in space but not underground
4. In the early hours of 8th August 1963 a gang of 15 men lead by Bruce Reynolds and including Ronnie Biggs attacked a Royal Mail train near Mentmore , Bucks that was travelling from Glasgow to London. The robbers got away with over £2.6 Million - most of which was never recovered. The heist became known as The Great Train Robbery.
