Grenfell Jones: A Brief Review of The Creator of the Gren`s Rugby Addicts Calendar

Officially, Grenfell Jones MBE, but better known as GREN
of the South Wales Echo, for whom he has produced a
daily cartoon for 32 years. These cartoons have won him
numerous awards - Provincial Cartoonist of the Year four
times - while making him a household name in Wales.
But his influence extends far beyond the borders of his native land (he was born in
Hengoed) with a succession of Sporting Calendars, Golf and Cricket, besides Rugby,
and these have earned him international acclaim. He has produced 24 books and
illustrated many others - including Max Boyce's best seller "I Was There".
For his charitable work, Gren has been honoured by the Variety Club of Great Britain.
In 1991 he was awarded the M.B.E. for his services to the newspaper industry.
He lives in Cardiff, but insists it is really a holiday home. His heart is still in Hengoed,
with a view of the famous viaduct that features in so many of his works. Despite his
achievementshe will somehow always be remembered for his famous Grens Rugby
Addicts Calendar which still maintains its popularity year in year out.
